A Pennsylvania school district is arming its teachers with 600 miniature baseball bats// KLARK JOHNSON

A school district in Erie, Pennsylvania has recently updated its safety policies post Parkland shooting. One policy includes handing out miniature wooden baseball bats to its 500 teacher staff. They will remained locked in classrooms and only to be used in hard lock down situations. School district superintendent William Hall said the bats  "could be used as a tool against an active shooter just like any other item in the immediate room,"

The idea has been mocked on social media. comments like, "What's a teacher gonna do, use their mini baseball bat like a light saber to deflect bullets back at a potential gunman???" has been posted to Facebook. Posts like "Pennsylvania school district wants teachers to bring little clubs to a gunfight," have been made to twitter. I think improving the safety policies is a step that needs to be made but this was the wrong way to go.

  1. I know that this school district was trying to do something in response to the backlash but I agree, this was wrong. Legislation needs to be put in place. Until then, no one is really safe.
