Another One Down- Heaven-Leigh Pettis

Another Unarmed Black Man Shot And In His Own Backyard

In Sacremento, California, Stephan Alonzo Clark, 22, was shot 20 times by police because they feared he had a gun when in actuality, it was a phone. Clark was on the phone in his Grandparent's backyard when police spotted him and suspected him of breaking into 3 cars and a house Sunday night. The department stated that 2 police officers chased him into his Grandparent's backyard and Clark failed to comply with their request. He supposedly advanced towards them with his hands in front of him and had a black object pointed towards them. Out of fear, the police officers shot him 20 times!
Excuse my french, but WHAT THE H.E. DOUBLE HOCKEY STICKS?! How do you assume a phone is a gun and then shoot 20 times? I get being a little on edge when someone threatens you with a gun but 1. Clark didn't do that, at all and 2. shooting someone 20 times is way too much. It doesn't take 20 shots to kill someone and as a police officer, you shouldn't want to resort to using your weapon off the back. His whole family is in mourning and haven't been super vocal but his Grandmother has said, "How was he in the wrong place at the wrong time in his own backyard? C'mon now, they didn't have to do that."
In my opinion, I definitely think those police officers who are shooting unarmed people should receive actual consequences for their actions like jail time. I think it was definitely uncalled for to shoot Clark 20 times especially since he didn't do anything. Clark was young and had already started a family with his fiancee. His fiancee was Salena Manni, whom he has 2 sons with who are 1 and 3 years old. It's sad that his life ended so quickly when he had so much potential and it sucks that his kids won't even really remember their father.
