Turpin Children Enjoying Freedom
David and Louise are parents of thirteen children, but they're accused of torturing and holding them in captivity. The ages of the children at the time of the arrest ranged from 2 to 29. Six of the children are minors, and are currently in two separate homes. The remaining seven are adults, and are in a home of their own. Authorities say the younger children will need a great deal of attention going forward. The parents " home schooled" their children, using their "private school" as a way to get money from the state. Their 17 year old daughter, who escaped, had only a first grade level education. Their education is practically non existent. The children were beaten, starved, and chained to their beds, only able to shower once a year. The 17 year old planned her escape fro over two years, using a deactivated cell phone she found in the home to call 911. The children were found extremely skinny and malnourished with the oldest child, age 29, weighing only 82 pounds. The children also suffered much mental and emotional abuse. They talk and Skype regularly from their separate houses. The parents pleaded not guilty. However the only thing the children were allowed to do in captivity was write, so their many many journals are to be used as evidence for their case.
This is insane. It's hard for me to believe anyone could hurt their children like this. I'm so glad to see that they're getting the help they need. I hope their parents get what they deserve. I wonder why they plead not guilty when there seems to be a great deal of evidence stacked against them. I hope their children can recover and live normal, happy lives.
When I hear stuff like this I think it's so sad how anyone could do that to their own flesh and blood. What's crazy to me is that the oldest one was 29, so they got away with this for such a long time. I'm just glad that they're safe now and I hope that they can recover from this.
