The Historically Black College and Universities Museum which has just opened in Washington DC is the first in a four part plan to open a larger for-profit museum in the D.C and, according to Terrence Forte, “bridge the gap for those who might not know about historically black college and universities’ stories.” Terrence Forte founded the museum with his family and works as its executive director.

I️ think it’s incredibly important to celebrate black history even outside of February. It’s easy for eighteenth century historians to not include detail or care about what was happening to black culture because, well, they didn’t necessarily think non-whites to have the same respects to put it in a nice way. It is up to us, then, to commemorate both the victories and realities which befell African descendants. One of the many victories was the establishment of schools and universities for African Americans when many (if not, no) colleges would enroll them. I relate this to the Black Civil Rights Movement of the 60s and 70s, which gained much fought-for legislation against segregation, like that of schools and other public institutions.
