UFC's Paige VanZant: 'I Was Giving Myself an Eating Disorder to Make the Weight'
Paige VanZant was a UFC fighter for the longest time, however at the age of 23 after countless difficult weight cuts she decided to end her run. She would have to shed down from 130 wish to about 115 in 5 days. That in itself is crazy, and not healthy for anyone. She explained that she developed an eating disorder to keep the light weight of 115. This is a serious thing the athletes do where they lose lots of weight for different "contests". It is called weight cutting. This could lead to many other health complications.
I feel like the perfect idea of what someone is supposed to be like to "fit the mold" is so sad. No one should have to lose obscene amount of weight in order to win the contest or whatever the situation might be. I think this relates to most people in the sense that we all are trying to be that perfect person who is the best at that specific talent. None of that should matter, and it should not interfere with the condition of your health.
I wonder how she gave herself an eating disorder for “contest” because it is a very serious issue that young people have and leads to worse situations like depression.
ReplyDeleteI watch UFC with my dad, and they are really strict about weight and if you don't make it to the exact decimal, they you aren't technically allowed to fight. It puts a lot of pressure on people to feel like they have to be a certain way.
