5 weeks ago a gunman killed 17 people at Stoneman Douglass High School in Parkland, Florida. They were very quick to take action and made a massive protest in a short amount of time. They engaged with the media and made their cause well known. On Febuary 18, they announced that they would march in Washington DC on March 24th. The march had three demands. The first was to ban assault weapons, the second was to stop the sale of high capacity magazines, and the third was to implement laws that require background checks all gun purchases online and at gun shows. They were successful and on March 24th, across the country major cities protested against gun violence.
I think it is amazing that the students are able to cause so much awareness and bring people to vote. People are comparing them to the college students that protested the Vietnam War.

I find it amazing that so many people have been contributing so quickly. This is a really important issue, and it's really nice to see a variety of individuals standing united.
ReplyDeleteThis also reminds me of the March on Washington held during the civil rights movement, because of the amount of people gathering together to fight against a common issue and bring change.
