A newborn baby in the Hawaiian islands born with a physical defect called microcephaly (having an unusually small head) was infected with the Zika virus. This diagnoses has been the first of it's kind in the U.S. but was linked with the child's birth defect. A disease control center, The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, solidified this evidence--that another baby was diagnosed with the same disease. The Hawaiian health department says the baby's mother most likely carried the disease herself and it contaminated the baby when it was still in the womb. Professionals say that neither the baby or the mother are infectious and there isn't a risk of transmission in Hawaii.
Deadly viruses seem to be really contributing to the social aspect of modern day events. Ebola was a world renouncing disaster that affected medical history for future med students. American doctors sought after the disease and have luckily said lives and these events will go down in American history. The Zika virus, if it's more than the mosquito illness that it seems to be currently, could end up being a massive and deadly virus like ebola. Everyone should make caution.
