Patience Henderson 1st Period; Bear Drags Florida Woman from Garage

A women in Florida, was attacked by a bear that was in her garage searching for food through her trash can. She said as many as five bears "of various sizes" were going through her trash when she walked into the garage. She was dragged by a large bear out of her garage onto her driveway, leaving her with scrapes and cuts on her face and legs. She escaped and ran back inside where her husband then called 911, where she was then taken to the hospital for further medical care. Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission spokesman Greg Workman said initial reports that several bears had attacked the woman were wrong. "There were several bears observed near the area, but one bear is responsible for her injuries."Lt. Jeff Hudson said the woman had an "encounter with a black bear" but could not confirm the reports of multiple bears being involved in the incident. Later that night they got a call saying they saw black bears, they then told them to start using bear-resistant trash cans.

Analysis:

If this happened anywhere near me I would make it clear that they need to do more than bear-resistant trash cans. They almost killed that poor women and it just seems like if she hadn't have died then they don't need to be cautions which they do. These "bear-resistant" trashcans aren't going to do anything until someone gets seriously hurt by one of these bears hurt someone. They need to get it under control now while they can.

  1. That would be absolutely terrifying! I completely agree. They should definitely take more drastic measures than beginning to use bear-resistant trash cans.
