Felicia Padilla 5th period: U.S still in fiscal deadlock, but glimmers of hope emerge

Summary: Although the U.S is still in a fiscal standoff, on Monday there were a couple of "baby steps forward." President Barack Obama, on Monday, said that he would accept a plan to increase "the nation's borrowing authority to avoid a default" as a short-term solution. However, others who are involved with the standoff have a different idea. Still, taking the difference of opinions into consideration, many lawmakers believe that putting an end to the standoff will begin with some sort of 'budget deal." The Government Shutdown has taken place for a week so far, and many people are beginning to wonder how much longer it will last. Although the urgent need for the Government to repair itself, "nothing amounting to a breakthrough was in sight." The legislation must be back up and running by October 17th, which is when the" government will run out of borrowing authority." On October 17th the United States will hit the $16.7 trillion borrowing limit.

Analysis: This whole "Government Shutdown" makes me want to move to Canada, or maybe New Zealand. Even though I haven't done a significant amount of research regarding this topic, I have kept up to date on the significant and disastrous consequences that this whole debacle could cause. It's really nerve-wracking knowing that some of the most educated, respected, and powerful people of our nation aren't thinking about the good of the nation as a whole, and instead are too focused on satisfying the needs of their particular party. When you run for any type of officer or political position you have to have control of your pride. Sometimes your decision isn't always the best decision, and we as humans need to learn to be more humble and put our own feelings aside sometimes in order to provide for everyone.

  1. I agree, these are very trying times, the people in charge of the nation need to get it together quickly. Just because you are dissatisfied with the current status of the country doesn't mean you have permission to shut it down entirely.
