"'Baby Hope' Has A Name, A Suspect In Her Death, NYPD Announces" by Hannah Kilpatrick

Summary:
The little girl known as “Baby Hope” finally has a name. Her abused and decomposed body was found on the side of a highway in an ice chest in New York, 1991. Anjelica Castillo was only four years old when she was so brutally murdered. Her cousin, Conrado Juarez, was just recently arrested and charged with her murder. It was an anonymous tip that was received in July that led detectives to crack the case from over two decades ago. According to the CNN report: “Construction workers found the body of Anjelica -- who was never reported missing -- bound and in a garbage bag, hidden under some soda cans inside a blue and white cooler. She had been smothered and sexually molested, and her body was so badly decomposed that several sketches were made to suggest what she looked like.” Juarez, who was 30 at the time, admitted to smothering her with a pillow while raping her. Juarez’s sister, Balvena Juarez Ramirez, supposedly was the one who told Juarez to get rid of the body and provided the cooler. The two then took a cab to Manhattan and dropped the cooler off in a wooded area near the parkway. The sister is now deceased.

Analysis:
This article is just mind-blowing and not in a good way. I can’t even believe the audacity of someone to take advantage of a four-year-old girl in that way to begin with, much the less to then stuff her in a cooler and dump her on the side of the road under some soda cans. And it’s beyond me that they were able to get away with it for twenty years! I’m sure Juarez was totally caught off guard when the police came in to question him while he was working at a Manhattan restaurant cleaning dishes. It is appalling to me that Juarez was able to get away with murder for two decades; but I’m glad that Anjelica’s killer has finally been brought to justice.
