Mekinna Knight- Survival of the Fittest 2.0
This week’s current event involves a miracle that could be a true lesson to all parents when educating their children. This article tells the story of 2 children, sisters Caroline and Leia Carrico (5 and 8), who were stranded in the California woods after following deer tracks for loger than they had anticipated and getting lost. The girls were found 44 hours later only 1.4 miles away from their home in perfectly good health, which is surprising considering the extremely rugged environmental territory they had been stranded in. In later in interviews it was discovered that the girls had been trained in 4-H which might have been a leading factor to why they were not fatally endangered. 4-H is the largest youth development organization in the US. It offers programs such as camping and hands-on projects in areas like science, health and agriculture. The Carrico sisters told first responders they had gotten lost following a deer trail and survived by drinking water from huckleberry leaves, CNN affiliate KRCR-TV reported. It is truly a miracle these girls are here today, and parents might look more into preparing their children for the worst. It’s better to be safe than sorry. https://www-m.cnn.com/2019/03/04/us/california-missing-sisters-found-trnd/index.html?r=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.google.com%2F
This can be slightly connected with the story of Juana Maria in the famous “Lone Woman of San Nicholas”, a story of a Native American in the 1790's that was stranded on an island off the coast of California for 2 years and through her intelligence of the wild was able to survive and eventually be rescued.
