Walkouts

Public employees have been undervalued of decades, so to improve conditions, the went on strike. The workers of America had been underrepresented for years. In the years following the movements of the 60s, America has backtracked. The conditions have become worse since this time period, and workers are read for a change to be made. American poverty rates have nearly doubled since 1960. Many teachers across america have been partaking in walkouts in an attempt to raise their stagnant salary. Many schools were forced to close for a day due to this "budget crisis", and unfortunately education is not the first priority of many law makers. Per student funding has dropped nearly 30% in the past ten years. This has led to textbook shortages, outdated materials, and crumbling schools. These teachers and students have organized walkouts to achieve the fair treatment that the realm of education deserves.

This is similar to the different civil rights movements of the 60s. This can be compared to the Montgomery Bus Boycott, for these teachers are demanding direct social and political change. They want their equal opportunity, they want to be treated as though they were a hot shot ceo. These teachers want to be protected and cared for in the way big businesses are cared for. This movement is about bringing education to the forefront and trying to better the lives of the students. These teachers are, in a way, boycotting the government. Education is far more important than many law makers realize, it's the basis and foundation of everything.
