The Boston Marathon made a historic comeback on Monday when Desiree Lindon won- the first win for women since 1985. Linden's time was 2 hours, 39 minutes, and 54 seconds. Only 4 minutes better than second place finisher Sarah Sellers. Yuki Kawauchi won the men's race and earned Japan's first Boston Marathon title. 5 years after the finish line explosions, Linden and Kawauchi were happy to lead 30,000 runners through the drenching rain. The runners did amazing considering the freezing temperatures, and hails of rain.
This article was written by Jimmy Golen at the Associated Press. This Boston Marathon was a rough one, each and every athlete had trials and challenges ahead of them. It was incredible that Desiree Linden was able to push through to first place. Even though it is not as historic this article can be related to the 19th amendment and women making their mark.

  1. Yay! Very glad that these women are being positive role models and showing girls they can compete athletically with men.
