A United States naval carrier visited the coast off of Vietnam for the first time since the U.S. pulled out of Vietnam fifty years ago. The U.S. has requested to enact this move because of Chinese advances within the East Sea off the coast of Vietnam.
I can synthesize this to the Berlin Airlift of 1968-1969. The United States, under both situations, did not back down in order to give the impression of dominance and fearlessness. The United States has a long history of using diplomatic and military presence in order to get what they want; in this case: the halt of Chinese militarization in the East Sea.
