Summary: This past Friday, Trump's inauguration has filled the news with controversy, and more importantly, memes. Memes are a truly important thing to our society, in my opinion, and the meme that has been flooding social media this week is the George W. Bush struggling with his poncho meme. Essentially, as Trump's speech started, a light rain began to fall, and George W. Bush, the former 43rd president, was struggling with putting on his poncho, and the paparazzi stopped focusing on the speech, and began to focus on the funny event. It soon went viral, and became an internet sensation!
Analysis: This was written yesterday, January 20, 2017. The author is unbiased and states the facts of the event that occurred. I personally believe the main idea of this article, and the main reason that this has become a huge hit, is because of the negativity of the inauguration. Donald Trump seems to be a sexist, racist, homophobic president, and it seems as if we've voted a president who will take us back in time, rather than move America forward, and this terrifies people. I agree, and this terrifies me, but it's time of difficulty and sadness that humans need comic relief. that's why I think certain people have tried to focus on the funny sides of things, rather than the negative.
Synthesis: This reminds me a lot of the creation of political cartoons. Political cartoons seem to had been made in order to make peple laugh, and make light of the corrupt and dreadful situations in politics. Since political cartoons are not as popular, and memes are an extremely popular event, I feel like the memes are equivalent to the cartoons. Of course, we shouldn't ignore the situations, but it helps to ease the pain.
