When a very important defense system is down I personally think it's better for the public to be in the dark about it. Think about it this way: If you don't know you're unprotected then you won't worry about it. The stress of the unprotectedness leads to a poor way of life until you can be sure you're safe again. This applies heavily to when a nuclear demolishing is at stake. You cannot feel the bomb killing you as you are evaporated instantaneously so you'll never know you were in the center of a murder crater. It really doesn't matter if you know you're safe or not, the warning system is just that, a warning.

Trident Nuclear System Failure- Evan Daane
Last June, Britain's trident nuclear detection system was tested but proved to not work correctly. At the cost of $40 billion dollars and not much to show, why wasn't the public briefed on the ordeal? Now Britain has no defense against long-range nuclear attacks. The knowledge was announced by a U.S. official with information on the incident. Many were worried of what came to the missile that was used to test but it has been confirmed that it safely self-destructed in the ocean off the coast of Florida. The whole ordeal might be on the talking table for the meeting between British prime minister Theresa May and Donald Trump this Friday.

I agree with you that the fact that the nuclear detection system was broken should not have been reported. Not only, as you said, could it cause public panic, but it also makes Britain more vulnerable to nuclear attacks from countries like Russia and North Korea, who know that they have a better chance at maximum destruction when the target is defenseless.
ReplyDeleteWow that really is crazy! I totally agree with keeping the people in the dark- but then again, I kinda would want to know. I know it's smarter to not tell anyone, but it just seems like something you should share. Idk..
