On Saturday, January 21, 2017, a day after Trump was inaugurated thousands of woman in Washington gathered to protest for against Trump and the values that he holds. The streets of Washington became swamped with people of all races, ages, gender identities, and sexual orientations wearing pink beanies as acts of defiance. Enraged that abortion rights, gay marriage, immigration rights, and other fundamental freedoms might be in jeopardy, people took to the streets to stand together. Protesters were told to make their way to the White House any way possible, which resulted in it being totally surrounded. A march such as this one is phenomenal, but there were marches exactly like this all over the countries including, L.A., New York, Chicago, Memphis, Austin, and many other major cities. There were even marches in Paris, Italy, Norway, Japan, and Antarctica. "We can whimper, we can whine, or we can fight back", said Ms. Warren a Democratic senator from Massachusetts. "Me, I'm here to fight back. "
Although I'm very sad to be alive in a time where a man like Trump can be elected as president, it makes me feel better when I see something like this. It reminds me that there are more good people who are building each other up, than those who are trying to knock us down. The fact that this march went GLOBAL shows that its so much bigger than any of us. This shows the need of more women in politics to speak the voice for all us who feel that we are being ignored. In the 1960's the American Feminist movement started to gain steam, and these protests show that their work is far from finished. The sheer numbers of those who participated is something that those who oppose our cause cannot dismiss, including Trump. It is my hope that this momentum is not lost and that this become a moment for all of us, to create the world which we all believe exists.
