Summary: The release of the name of the next film in the Star Wars franchise has recharged the popularity of a new world religion known as "Jediism". This "religion" began in the 90's but has gained recognition recently alongside the new film installments and a recent refusal tto grant religious status to the Temple of Jedi Order, as well as the unfortunate death of Carrie Fisher.
Analysis: This story from New York Times author Christopher D. Shea is very amusing and uplifting for me. It is upsetting that they can't be fully recognized and respected. What happened to freedom of religion?
Synthesis: Religion has been a big part of who I am and my childhood within my family. This religion reminds me a lot of the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster. If you're interested you can read all about it here.
That is a really odd religion. Maybe they need to gather more of a base and establish themselves before they can be granted religious status (although that would be rather strange to have Star Wars religion have the same status as Christianity, Islam, Judaism etc.)
ReplyDeleteit sounds more like a joke, and should probably go back to the drawing board on this one.
ReplyDeletei agree about the comparison to the church of the flying spaghetti monster and this kinda just sounds like people doing, as the kids say these days, the most
