Barron Trump's Mocker: 'SNL' Writer Will Not Be Fired?
Angelica Salazar 1st period
This article has to do with how Katie Rich, a SNL writer, spoke her opinion on Twitter about Barron Trump, President Donald Trump's son. She was called out by other Twitter users, and eventually seen as cruel and mean. Eventually, she was to be fired and leave any source of NBC shows. Saturday Night Live, also known as SNL, is known for its comedic humor to TV. It is no surprise that out of all the people SNL writers choose to ridicule, they evidentially choose Donald Trump. The show has many viewers, and it hasn't had any known complaints, so it must be funny. Not surprisingly, Donald Trump spoke on this "bias" and "unwatchable" TV show.
In my opinion, I find it bit unfair and unjustified that a simple, yet rude remark causes a woman to lose her job of many years. As the article states, there is several memes and jokes about Donald Trump and his family, which are more outrageous and extreme than the small remark stated by Katie Rich. According to the first amendment of the United States Constitution, there is complete freedom of speech. Yes, there are rude remarks everywhere among anyone, and yes, they can be harsh, but it is fairly stated that there is freedom in what anyone says. Furthermore, SNL is known for its bizarre and strangely cruel jokes, so having those opinions stated aloud on Twitter, is and shouldn't be surprising at all, especially because that's what the show calls for.
This relates to the time in 1918, when the Sedition Act was passed, outlawing any opinions or offenses in speech.
