In this recently published article, scientists question whether or not life came from simply dividing droplets. The theories say that since chemically active drops can grow and divide, then life could have been formed in that way. Some scientists and researchers think this is an incredible breakthrough in the history of the beginning of life on earth. Others think this "breakthrough" is too simple to explain the complexity of modern day cells. They argue that this doesn't necessarily prove anything at all. However, all this research is very recent and new but could be the start of an amazing discovery.
This article was published just yesterday, January 22nd. They are just getting started on this new theory of the beginning of life. Although this theory may be new, scientists have been trying to figure this out for hundreds of years. In the latter half of the 19th century, Darwin published his theory of evolution where people believed that humans had evolved and had been naturally selected by "survival of the fittest". After that, many different theories and ideas have come up all through science history. This new research is very promising but unlikely to answer all of our questions in the near future.
