Women's March:

summary:

On the day after President Trump's inauguration, huge protests formed in Washington as well as many other cities around the country. These rallies mostly consisted of middle-aged, white women, who brought along their daughters and granddaughters. The women who marched on that day wore inappropriate shirts and hats. They were protesting that women give equal rights as men. These protests ranged from 5,000 to 500,000 people. Some people even brought their babies and dogs while putting signs on them to help protest. Also, Madonna's speech that mentioned that she "wanted to blow up the white house" was considered inspirational to some people. Abortions also played a huge part during the women's march that day. Some wore shirts stating that it is the women's choice whether to kill the baby or not. Tweets were also made going against President Trump saying that "you can't be a feminist and support Trump at the same time". This march was considered as one of the largest women's protests in history.

analysis:

Personally, I think that it is cool that United States citizens are exercising their rights. However, I believe that doing a protest on equaling rights for women is a little much. I think this because we all have the same rights and America has certainly come along a lot since the 1900's and I think that that is something to be thankful about. Also, legalizing abortions can cause a dramatic decrease in population  and plus, its (in my opinion) cruel to kill an unborn child. The amount of people who participated in this march is insane (half 1,000,000 people). I think that Madonna's speech saying she wanted to blow up the white house is a form of terrorism and she should go to jail for that, or at least be fined. Finally, the things being said about how you can't be for equal rights if you voted for Trump is ridiculous. I think that people should be allowed to have their own opinion without being stereotyped.

  1. While I respect your opinion, it is factually proven that women do not have equal rights. The Equal Rights Amendment was never passed, even though the large majority of Americans think that it has. Women make 78 cents to a mans dollar, with the ratio for women of color being even less than that, around 55 cents. Our wage gaps are greater than any other developed country. Women are more likely to go to college than men, but will likely earn less, and are more likely to be in poverty. Women are underrepresented in government and business. So while it is better than it has been in the past, I would argue that it is definitely not in the place that it should be.

  2. I agree with Townley on this one. Women get taken for granted all the time, and I think that women should stand up for themselves more often then just taking what they get. - Skyler Tepedino
