Mikenzie Moon, "First days of Trump era Signal America's deepening political divide"

Summary: The USA is at this  time is very divided.  There used to be more things that united Americans, but now the USA is divided. Research shows that 86 percent of Americans believe the country was more politically divided than the past. These splits come from this past election.  President Trump constantly shares his opinions, and they are often offensive to many people. His inaugural speech was an attempt at unity of all people. Also there are stories in this article that show people typecasting people for believing a certain belief.

Analysis/Synthesis: I think everyone is entitled to have there own beilef and other people shouldn't judge them for what they choose. I didn't want Trump to win the election because he has said very demeaning things about ethnicity, women, sexuality, and disabled people. I do hope that he will help our country and not do anything to discriminate. I feel that what is happening right now is exactly what George Washington warned in his farewell address. This election has caused a lot of hate and anger in this country. Since Thomas Jefferson was elected,  there has always been a peaceful transfer of power. Peaceful protesting like the women march is amazing because it shows true democracy, but violent riots don't help anything but causes more strife. I believe if people can choose love and not hate, then the divide our country is feeling won't be so wide, because we are all Americans who love our country.

  1. I agree. Peaceful protest is often a good way to go rather than ensuing violence.
