SUMMARY:
Shayla Rudolph, an 18 year old mom in Ohio, has been charged with abduction for taping her 2-year-old son to the wall with packing tape for 15 minutes. Rudolph claimed she needed to get housework done, so she taped his wrists and mouth and went on Facebook Live to show it to the world. In the video, you witness Rudolph saying, "You can't clean without them running around tearing up? Tape them to the wall". She also tells her son in the video that he has "the best mommy in the whole wide world" because he was able to see the TV, however the child is crying in the back of the video. Child Services contacted Rudolph and paid a visit. Shortly after, she got back on Facebook Live, releasing another video. Rudolph didn't care at this point, and said, "This time y'all can take him". The police became involved after this video was shown. Now, however, the 2-year-old son is in custody by Franklin County Children's Services.
ANALYSIS:
Before reading this article, I had been very aware of child abuse and incidents similar to this that have occurred in the past. I believe it's horrible that this young mother treated her son this way, and it proves that she is not equipped to care for someone at her young age, and would need assistance. In the video provided by CNN, someone comments that we learn a lot from videos like this. By live streaming the video on Facebook, despite how horrible the action committed was, it helped us to prevent occurrences like this to return in the future. They were able to quickly get help to the young boy taped up. Also, it gives me much relief to know that he is now in a safe environment. By Rudolph live streaming an incident such as this, shows once more how big social media is for those around Rudolph's age. Will there be laws set in the future as technology advances that restricts cases such as this? However, Facebook Live in this case was very beneficial, and helped them to react fast to help this abused young boy. I hope that in the future technology will help us even more to benefit us in moments like this to prevent something that could potentially become very harmful and dangerous if given no assistance.

I'ts amazing how many instances people have engaged in criminal activity and decided to show the world on Facebook live. Like, do you think no one will say anything? Do you think you're not gonna get caught?
ReplyDeleteI can't understand how this mother thought that it was such an ingenious idea to tape her child to a wall. How do you find that to be a wonderful idea? How do you do that and think it is so great you just have to share it with the world? How do you do that and be proud of it?
ReplyDeleteI honestly don't know what this lady was thinking. What gave her the motive do such an awful thing to her son? I'm glad the son is in safe environment also.
ReplyDeleteWow, I can't believe that this mother would do something like this! Some people think they can just get away with anything, but people will find a way to make it viral. - Skyler Tepedino
