In the past month, the U.S.-Mexico border has seen an
increase in the number of unaccompanied minors and families trying to
crossover. Since 2014, the amount of
immigration has steadily decreased until now the month of August where over
4,600 unaccompanied children and over 5,000 adults with children immigrated
into the U.S. These numbers aren’t as
big as from 2014, but they have dramatically increased from recent months.
The United States is probably in a difficult position with
an increase in incoming immigrants. The
nation wants to be able to accommodate as many immigrants and refugees as they
can, but that’s not necessarily possible.
Recent immigration events are significant to U.S. history because as
more people immigrate, our country’s ethnicity will continue to become more
diverse. We have a vast amount of
minorities in the U.S. which will continue to grow if people keep
immigrating. The increasing amount of
immigrants and minorities in our country help evolve our culture and have an
impact on our government, our social traditions, as well as our economy.
I don't necessarily think it'll be a bad thing if we have more immigrants come to the U.S. but, I think it'll be very hectic for immigration officers. I truly believe that since there has been so much effort put into keeping out immigrants that more people are coming especially with what Donald Trump is saying. But, if you don't enforce it as much there may be a slight chance that there won't be such a large influx of people all at once, and it'll be more of a steady rate. (Jillian Linnear P.8)
