Claudia Anthony "A real leader wouldn't stigmatize Muslims"

Ben Carson, who is running for the Republican nomination, stated that he believes that a Muslim should never be president, because Islam is incompatible with the U.S. Constitution. However, in the Constitution, it says that "no religious test shall ever be required as a qualification to any office or public trust under the United States." Carson is insulting an entire group of Americans, who believe strongly in their faith, just like people of any other religion. The author of this article invites Carson to learn more about Islam and try to understand it, rather than disrespect it.

It always surprises me when I hear comments like this, because I do not see how anyone could be ignorant towards an entire religion, or group of people. This type of talk teaches people that it is acceptable to ostracize American Muslims. I don't think that someone who says such rude things is an appropriate candidate to become the president of this country. When this country first began, African slaves had no rights, and as time went on they were no longer enslaved but they were still treated poorly. After years of social injustice, America finally has an African American president, and that leads me to believe and hope that one day the bias against Muslims will no longer exist and we will have a Muslim president.

Islamophobia is a major issue in this country. Ironically, Islamophobic acts have taken more lives that 9/11- and these are crimes proven to be hate crimes. Every religion has its bad apples, even Christianity, and those few corrupted individuals should not be the face of an entire people. We were based on religious freedom for all, not by one god of the Christian faith.
