A
prince from Saudi-Arabia, Majed Abdulaziz Al-Saud,
has been accused of sexual harassment and has been put in jail. Los Angeles
police were called to the scene Wednesday afternoon. They interviewed people
and arrested Al-Saud for sexual harassment, battery, and false imprisonment. As
of right now it is unclear if Al-Saud has diplomatic immunity but he is out on
a bail of $300,000, and is scheduled to appear in court on October 19. CNN was
unable to contact anyone at the Saudi-Arabian Embassy.
Sexual harassment is a crime that
can be seriously over looked. Right now the government is focusing on drugs and
the police, both state and federal, aren’t giving sexual assault much attention.
Which is why this article is so surprising. The author, Cheri Mossburg, could
have possibly chosen to write this article to inform the public that things
could be changing when it comes to rape and assault charges. Celebrities and
important government people often times get over looked when it comes to crimes,
so when Al-Saud got arrested it was a big step in the right direction for our
system. The only frustrating thing is that happened to someone who possibly has
immunity from the law, something that can be a blessing and a curse. It’s
important that people continue to fight for victims of sexual assault, both
women and men, and it’s important that the law continues to persecute criminals
who sexual harass others.

ReplyDeletePeriod 5. Sorry I forgot it in the blog.
Good to see an attempt to hold someone accountable for their actions. Sexual Assault ruins lives and this is especially poignant because a member of the Royal Family is being charged. Sadly I doubt he will be able to be fully convicted do to such massive corruption but this is huge for the Middle East. (Zoe Roberts 3rd Period)
