Recently, Pope Francis visited the U.S. and made many speeches on controversial but important topics. He met with sex abuse victims and instead of shunning them or thinking of them as "not pure", he referred to them as family which is an important step for the Catholic Church for developing ways to be more accepting, especially to the victims and same-sex couples (also stated in his speech) Pope Francis promised to try to stop this violence. "The crimes and sins of the sexual abuse of children must no longer be held in secret. I pledge the zealous vigilance of the Church to protect children and the promise of accountability for all."
Personally, I have not been following this whole documentary of the Pope visiting the U.S. But I found this article particularly interesting because I feel this could definitely be a step forward for more conservative Christians in being more accepting towards cases like this. In the past, churches would have shunned and/or discriminating towards the victims but now, they can hopefully be more welcoming.
