The Duck Boat Tours are very common in the U.S. and even all over the world. They have always been critisized for being unsafe and unfit for driving on streets, but this time it's a real mystery as to what actually happened on the boat. The left front side of the boat was found, after the accident with the charter bus, to have it's axel apparently sheared off. Officials don't know if this was a result of the crash or if it was damaged bofore the crash. Witnesses say they saw the frontmost left wheel lock up as the duck boat collided on a bridge with a charter bus carrying international students of North Seattle College students to an orientation. The investigation could take months and other operators of Duck tours are watching it very closely. The specific boat, boat no. 6, passed annual inspections recently for 2014 and 2015, but the investigators are looking at what the driver of the bus and the driver of the boat were doing up to 3 days prior to the crash. Four students were killed and their familes have support from hotels in Seattle and a few airlines to make sure they can get there and be informed about their child without having to worry about money or booking a hotel or flight. There are also Red Cross workers providing mental counseling. The students were from Austria, China, Indonesia, and Japan.
I think this is a real problem because if it was sabotage, who was the intended victim or victims? Why wasn't the problem detected before? Did the driver not slam on the brakes as soon as they realized the wheel was locked up? There is also the problem of that this was a company who is already being critisized for being unsafe and this will hurt their reputation like the Volkswagen company.
I personally believe the driver would be at fault. Surely they were capable of braking and possibly reducing the impact of the collision. Madeline Jones 4th period.
