"Will Mars summers bring forth life?" -Leah Messinger (period1)
The article that I read was about a very significant and exciting discovery that was recently made and announced today. For many years we have wondered about the characteristics of other planets and specifically their ability to obtain life. Well, it was confirmed, via the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter, that their is indeed liquid water on Mars. This is a huge deal because it helps us get even closer to finding out if their is even the slightest possibility for life on another planet or life already existing there. This is a very profound discovery because it leads scientists even closer to their ultimate goal of finding out whether their is any Earth-like planet out there. While it seems to many as a very small and insignificant finding, this could quite possibly change our future lives and our next generation's lives.
A discovery like this could also cause another space race because, as before, countries will begin to want to be the first to discover new information and have those exciting breakthroughs before other countries do. This compares to U.S history, obviously, because it is these kinds of steps that get other people's attention and furthers our studies. In a way it is almost as if history is repeating itself in that studies about space are being made that can further change our lives and how we view space. This is very exciting because one day our children and grandchildren will be learning about these very things that we are experiencing right now.

This is so cool. I know that there is a colonization effort in the making, hoping to leave for Mars in just a few decades. However, if they go, they won't have enough resources to come back. Scientists are trying desperately to find a way to provide for the Mars colonists so that they are not just abandoned on Mars, so hopefully this new finding will help in that regard.
ReplyDeleteEver since I was a young girl, I would want to know what it was like to visit Mars, so hopefully my kids can one day!! The water discovery not only opens up the eyes to many scientists, but it also opens up everyday people's eyes.
