Shell oil company recently discovered that a "vast untapped reservoir" in actual fact held only a little bit of oil. They had spent over seven billion dollars on the expedition, and therefore have taken quite a hit to their funds. Needless to say, the stockholders are not happy as Shell's stock has dropped three percent. This fiasco has caused many other oil companies to cancel drilling in those areas, much to the delight of environmentalists.
We have always been greedy people, take the early colonists for example. They committed acts of genocide in pursuit of glory for their home countries, and America, the product of the colonization, is no different. I think that this is a sign to the oil companies and all who invest in them that oil and other energy sources like it are extremely finite. If we continue on the path that we are on, we could end up in some Mad Max dystopian future. We should take from this that it is well time to turn our attention fully to creation of efficient methods of getting energy. We are so close to perfecting them, why should we still be focused on oil.
