Needless to say the crowd erupted in cheers.
When I read this it imediatly reminded me of the bible stroy when Jesus was preaching to his deciples and a little child ran up to him. The deciples pushed the child away but Jesus said to let the children come. In all of the children's bibles they always have the cartoon illistration of Jesus surrounded by 20 little kids, lovingly talking with them. It's essentially the modern day equivilent of what Pope Francis did here. I think this story is so great and has an awesome message, really tugs on the heartstrings. Although, I will say, this girl is five. I believe fully that she feels this in her heart, but I kind of doubt that she wrote that letter verbadem. It also says later in the article that "Cruz describes herself as an 'American citizen with Mexican roots.'" Once again true but I don't quite think that statement is up to par with a five year olds vocablulary. On a different, more serious note though, I hope this will make a difference. I wonder if it will just be another minor story lost to the big waves of National News or if it will truly make people pause to think. Right now, the Pope is on his way to New York to talk with the United Nations. Maybe he will reference this story. I think it will be a great thing if this helps and I hope this personal connection will strike a chord with some of the people sitting on top.

This story is really beautiful and a light in a sea of depressing, dark stories. The Pope's whole trip to the United States has been really miraculous. The fact that he loves people and talking to people and touching people makes people really love him. In addition, he speaks the truth and he isn't afraid who hears it. His addresses during the trip have talked about some of the most controversial issues. Hopefully, this truthfulness and straightforwardness makes a change in the world.

I think they kind of fluffed it up a bit because, man, she's five, but this does say what needs to be said: that there are people that need this country. -Max Gaddis 9th period
