Christa Hamby P1. Transgender Inmate Wins Historic Case Against Prison Guards Who Assaulted Her

http://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2015/sep/24/sandy-brown-maryland-transgender-inmate-mistreated

A transgender inmate who says guards called her an animal and encouraged her to kill herself has won a legal battle against Maryland prison officials in the first successful lawsuit of its kind against a U.S. correctional facility. She was isolated for 24 hours a day for 66 days. On thursday she finally received justice for her awful mistreatment.

This article should bring a lot of awareness to the problem at hand. Everyday transgender people are being mistreated while receiving unequal rights. Articles like these make me question what little humanity is left. Given this is it rewarding to know that the ruling of this case means that transgender people will have real protections that they desperately need in prison.

  4. I am happy to hear they won the case! No matter what crime committed, no one should be mistreated like that due to the fact that they're different. Transgender people are in no way, shape, or form animals and it's time the ignorant people see that and stop mistreating them.
