Kayleigh Smerud Pd.1 Teen Arrested After Homemade Clock Mistaken for Bomb Cleared After Investigation

A freshman named Ahmed Mohamed was taken into police custody because his clock was mistaken for a bomb. People thought this kid was targeted because of his race which could be true. That has happened before so I can see why people would suspect that. The Irving police didn’t state any charges against him. The device that he made looked suspicious and dangerous to the school. They didn’t want the other kids to be in danger. After all of this was addressed Ahmed was invited to the White House because of his inventions. “Mohamed, who studies engineering and has won awards for his inventions, told ABC's Dallas station, WFAA, that he created the clock over the weekend and brought it to school to show a teacher. Mohamed was tinkering with the clock during class and plugged it into an electrical outlet when it began making noise, according to the police.”

I get why the suspended him because he’s bringing danger to the school. The school is in charge of keeping all the students safe. Bringing a bomb to school is not okay, but the fact that he made was pretty amazing. The President saw his potential in him and asked him to come to the White House. Ahmed probably did not see that coming.

  1. This is a very big topic in our news right now and I think that the problem of him being suspected with a bomb is far more than people are seeing into it. This has to do with racism and stereotypes and cultural and racial diversity. It's a problem we need to fix

  2. I heard about this, it's a huge story. I do believe it has to do with islamaphobia, but the clock did look more like a bomb than a clock. I read that the clock wasn't homemade nor his own creation, it was a premade clock; he only tampered with it. It was also counting DOWN, not counting up like normal clocks do. Besides this, I do believe this wouldn't have happened if the boy who brought the school was white.

  3. I have seen this story all over social media and think that most of the suspicion and fear was because of his race. Though I also understand that the school was looking out for all the other students and that the homemade clock didn't look like a clock we see everyday. But I think if another race student was in this position that it would have not been such a big deal.

  4. This story has been everywhere, I think that this must be the best thing that happened to this boy. Of course, when the police came and took him to custody he was scared and most likely wanted to curl up and die. But, this event has opened so many opportunities for this boy, and if I were him I would be grateful that it happened because he would not have been to the White House without it.
