Post: Delaware officials investigating fatal police shooting of man in wheelchair | US news | The Guardian
Summary: Police responded to a call Thursday. They arrived on the scene to see Jeremy McDole, 28, who had shot himself. He had been paralyzed since the age of 18, and was in a wheelchair at the time. Police asked him to put his weapon down. He appeared to reach in his pocket when different police officers fired four shots. He then is seen falling out of his wheelchair. There is no visible gun seen, however police say they recovered a handgun from the scene. The four officers are now on administrative leave.
Analysis: This incident covers a broad range of topics, the one most prominent thought is the treatment of minority groups at the hands of police. Again, we are forced to call into question the safety protocol, and even the motives of some of the people we call to protect us. Not all cops are racist. That is one thing we must all acknowledge. However, to say that Black people aren't being racially profiled or even being treated unfairly when it comes to law enforcement would be a lie. Of course, this all ties back to systematic racism that has gone on since our country has been founded. We as a nation need to look at our past, learn from it, and start turning tables. Looking different, does not equate being different. We need to end stereotypes and generalizations if we want to see a change in our society.

  1. This is such a sad story. But, especially in our world today, it isn't uncommon for blacks to be treated far differently than whites. I do agree with you, I hope soon we can finally move past the thought that the color of our skin determines superiority in our society.
