Kiyanna Elliott Pope and Abortion

Summary:
On Tuesday, September 1st, Pope Francis announced that priests globally will be given permission to forgive the sin of abortion when Year of Mercy begins. The Year of Mercy begins December 8th and ends November 20th of 2016. Usually this power is only given to select churches. If a women has an abortion, they are automatically excommunicated from the Catholic Church, and the only way to reverse this is through a bishop intervening. Abortion is still a huge issue in the Catholic Church with people being about evenly divided on this topic.

Analysis:
After reading our  Summer Reading Book, The Wordy Shipmates, I found this article interesting in relation to the main conflict throughout the book, which is religion more specifically Catholicism vs Protestantism. I wonder if the Puritans in the Massachusetts Bay Colony were alive today and witnessed the announcement, how would they react. In respects to Catholicism, the Puritans still had a lot in common with the Catholics. Would this mean the same mixed and divided reaction or would it be more one sided?
