"Beyond The Border" Julie T.

"Beyond The Border"
Its about how thousands of people from Mexico who cross the border and how dangerous this is. Mexican immigrants have been in the news lately and in my life too. Its a big issue in Texas, Arizona, and California. But whenever the immigrants cross the border they go through Texas, and Texas has some very rough terrain especially since there's no water and its about a 200 ml trek. The reporter talks about all the people whom die just to come to the US and live a better life. They talk about a women whom paid the price just to come to America to see her husband and family. Thousands of immigrants die from dehydration and heat stroke from the texas heat. Congress should pass a law to where they should make it easier for immigrants to receive a visa much more easily so that immigrants don't risk their lives crossing the border in such harsh conditions. But instead it's becoming more difficult for immigrants to cross.
There was an act Obama passed for immigrant children to receive citizenship/residency so that they could get an education but once this news got to Mexico thousands of children started crossing the border, and had to pass that same tough terrain and thousands of children started disappearing, and thousands more where being housed in texas and other states because border patrol didn't know what to do with these kids since they're like 3 or 12 and don't have contacts or anything.
So this area has been a problem for a long time and it needs to be looked at, instead of deporting people back they should focus on keeping the borders safe for these immigrants. They're literally risking everything to come to a "better home."

  1. I can't think of a REAL reason we should be putting up heavy borders, between any two countries. We are all people of the same species, we speak different languages and have different cultures but we are all still humans! We wouldn't be having such a crisis over immigration if it was made easier to move to the country next door. Yes, America's population will surge even more and Spanish will probably outnumber English as the most spoken language but why does that matter? America is supposed to be the one country with no deep cultural history, we are such a young country, made for the very purpose of being a land where anyone can come, no matter what religion or language. We need to not only make it easier and safer to immigrate here, but set up new systems and organizations designed to handle the influx of new people. No matter how strong the border gets, people are still going to try to get to America, no matter the cost.

  2. Katie Schell- I can't imagine just packing up my life and leaving my home to go to a foreign place. The fact is that by going about the correct way of entering into the U.S. it could take months maybe years to acquire a visa or green-card. Sometimes people just have to get out immediately.
