This article was written by CNN’s Tal Kopan. Coming from this particular source, one would expect the article to have a liberal bias, however, in describing the bipartisan committee that is proposing the bill, the article seems mostly objective. The article was written very soon after the new year when debates about Russia’s involvement in the presidential election first began to make their way into the media’s limelight. Having been a part of many debates myself, especially after the results of the presidential election had been decided, I found interest in hearing the government’s actions towards these claims. It appears that now they are intending to either apply (or make the process simpler) sanctions on Russia after the full investigation of the matter has been completed. It seems as though the post is intending to reach an audience of those who oppose President-Elect Donald Trump’s friendliness with Russian President, Vladimir Putin. This article shows the government’s true reaction to the claims of Russian involvement in the potential hacking of the DNC. If the allegations are found to be true, this could lead to information that could have eventually changed the entire outcome of the election. Many people would like to hear this information, and this article shows that Congress is taking its own steps, even in bipartisan fashion, to make sure that the integrity of the democracy in the United States is maintained.
