Two Days with Three Polar Bears- Olivia Browne (Period 6)

Russian adventurer Sergey Ananov was forced to ditch his helicopter after being halfway through a six-hour flight from Iqaluit in Canada to Nuuk in Greenland. He landed in icy waters between Canada and Greenland. Here he describes his two-day battle against high winds, extreme temperatures and three Polar Bears.

Analysis:

The article is a first person account by Sergey Ananov about his solo experience with three polar bears. Due to the fact that he was the only one out their, some of the facts could be compromised. This article was produced on September 17th, 2015 about an event that occurred in July. The time passed in-between the recording of the experience and the actual experience could lead to loss of me memory of events. I know that Polar Bears are predators so, I was surprised by the fact that they were so frightened of Ananov. This article is for Polar Bear enthusiasts everywhere. This article was written to educate its audience about Polar Bears and how they react to people. The main idea of the article is that treating animals with respect will benefit you in the long run and it is significant for Polar Bear research.

  1. So the polar bears were friendly with him? They did not try to harm him?

    1. The article says that he chased them away and never had actual contact with them. Polar bears are not territorial which is why they did not attack. Also it was three different accounts with one bear at a time.

  2. I am surprised he didn't get hypothermia after going completely submerged in the water. He did cover up with the life raft and seemed to know a lot of survival skills which helped a lot but even so that water must have been just over freezing.

  3. Wow that's intense! I'm glad he survived because that "adventure" sounds very taxing on the mind and body!
