#IStandWithAhmed- Amaya Avila 8 period
Last Tuesday at an Irving school Ahmed Mohamed was arrested
for taking, what was assumed, a bomb, only it was a homemade clock he
constructed. Ahmed was very proud of his work, which is why he brought it to
show his capability to his teacher. The photograph of Ahmed with a look on his
face that reads horror and total confusion spread widely across the world. No
charges were filed against the innocent Ahmed.
I think
this story well represents the overall racial profiling issue we have in
America. Along with African Americans, Muslims do face a real problem in
America. It was easy to assume by this teacher and Irving Police Department
that this student of Muslim descent would carry a bomb, due to the racial
profiling. 9/11 was 14 years ago and to this day it is still hard to believe
that Muslims or any other race are indeed humans. Perhaps if people saw each
other as humans and not defined by their race or religion false accusation such
as this story would be nonexistent.

I agree, this has to stop. But how do we eliminate the fear that connects to this issue? How do we stop people from seeing the radical Muslims that were the cause of that infamous day in every single Muslim they see, or the thug or gangster in every black person they see?
ReplyDeleteI agree wholeheartedly that this is an extremely important thing to be talking about and taking action about, but I think in this particular instance, it has been blown a bit out of proportion.
