Summary:
One of New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo's top lawyers, Carey Gabay, was shot in the head and critically injured in Brooklyn. He had been spending the day with his family enjoying Pre-Indian Day Parade festivities when a stray bullet made contact with his skull. Although the shooter was not identified in the article, Cuomo has claimed the anonymous gunslinger fired "eight to 10 bullets" in an area near Gabay and his family. Governor Cuomo expresses his frustration with the issue, both in not being able to do anything, even as the Governor of New York, and in the stubbornness that which anti-gun control activists hold desperately onto in "preserving" the Second Amendment, "The Right to Bear Arms". Governor Cuomo comments on the seemingly endless tragedies that guns cause, and his wish for more gun regulation in this country, to prevent future innocent lives from being takenas well as injuries such as Gabay's
Analysis:
While looking for topics to discuss, I tried to stay away from shootings, as the topic was covered by me in last weeks article as well. But no matter where I look, what day it is, or even the time of day all I read about are shootings, and Gabay's case might just become that, "another shooting". I don't mean at all to belittle Gabay's case, or to be disrespectful in any way to those who have had a loved one killed or injured by guns, in fact if anything I'm making a statement on how terrible gun regulation really is in this country. Honestly with all the deaths and injuries caused by guns per year in the USA, you would've thought something significant might've been done. The reason why it hasn't? I'd guess the Second Amendment "The Right to Bear Arms". Many furiously defend this Amendment as a rule meant to allow us American citizens the ability to protect us and our families, but from what I seem to hear, allowing just anyone to have guns is doing quite the opposite. No one is guaranteed to be a trustworthy person. And Gabay's case is just another reminder that anyone who can easily access a gun can just as easily kill someone with it.
