Kim Davis has stirred up, once again, the controversy of same-sex marriages. As in any deep controversy, there are good arguments to both sides. This specific article focused more on the "religiously protesting against gay marriage" aspect of the whole story, but I appreciate how the author of this article wasn't "homophobic", didn't make any of the people out to be, and at the same time was not too over the top Christian. I like how we are seeing people stand up for their beliefs on both sides of the argument. It's a tough situation for all parties involved, but like I said, I appreciate how both sides are standing up for their version of what's right and how in this article the author didn't portray one side better than the other. But, I will say, at the end of the day, it is her job. As County Clerk, Kim Davis is suppose to issue marriage licenses to anyone that asks for them. Anyone. Not only is it apart of her pay grade, but it's also the law. There are parts of every job that people don't like and if it bothers her this much, she should quit.

You can't take one little bit from the bible that is totally unrepresentative of the overall messages and use it as an excuse to deny someone their civil rights. Slave owners took one out of context line from the bible to justify what they where doing. This isn't religious liberty this is it's own form of blatant racism and if history has told us anything people standing in the way of social equality and civil rights it's that those against change and reform towards equality will be looked back on as the villians as the one who were wrong. ReplyDeleteI understand that many people have their difference of opinion on same-sex marriage, but if you are going to be issued to give marriage licenses, and you know that the U.S. has issued same-sex marriage legal worldwide, then maybe you should quit your job.
ReplyDeleteThere's having your beliefs and then there's doing your job. I understand that the news laws conflicted with this woman's belief, but it's her job. If she doesn't want to pass out marriage licenses to gay people as well as straight people, she can get another job.
