People have been angry at Daraprim ever since last week when an AIDS patient advocacy group began asking why Turing Pharmaceuticals raised prices a staggering $13.50 a pill to $750 overnight. It's been on the market for 62 years, and is the main care for an illness caused by food that is called taxoplasmosis. It is caused by a parasite and is most harmful to those with weak immune systems. People on social media took to start a boycott. This got attention from presidential candidate, Hillary Clinton, and led to journalist John Carroll being called a moron by CEO Martin Shkreli.
I think that this is an extremely immature move by the company, but after this astounding price increase, it was definitely expected. Clearly this company is not the smartest bunch of people.

I think that the raise of the price is a little drastic. You would think that something that has been available for 62 years would decrease in cost not increase, especially that much overnight. -Mattie Whisler 9th period Flex
ReplyDeleteThis is what makes me sick about the greedy capitalist society we live in. By raising the price of this drug, he is making the drug completely inaccessible to most people who need it. It's not like he doesn't have enough money anyway.

Okay so I saw the video where he was affirming his actions to a newsperson and he was smiling and everything at condemning tons more people to die of a mostly curable disease than are already dying and I just can't understand how someone can be that evil. I also saw on twitter someone saying that after he did this he was probably gonna go steal all the presents from who-ville because he is literally that much of a monster.
