Family withdraws Ahmed Mohamed from school -Kennedy Park 4th

Last week on Monday Ahmed Mohamed was suspended for three days from school for bringing a homemade clock to school. A teacher became concerned after she saw the clock and mistook it for a bomb. This week Ahmed's father told Dallas Morning News, "These kids aren't going to be happy there." He has taken all of his kids out of Irving ISD schools.

This is absolutely insane. I think that this shows that there is still racism today and that it even occurs in our children's school! It's not ok that children are being accused of bringing a bomb to school because their race. This is like when people were being persecuted for their beliefs in the past and why they came to America. Not even our schools are safe from this type of persecution. My dad attended that high school and it just makes me think about how close that is to my life and how present racism still is in our society.

  2. I can understand how they would withdraw their son from the school because all their son was trying to do was impress his teacher, and I feel once we found out it wasn't a bomb they shouldn't have suspended him. In this nation we need more students like this Who go the extra mile to impress their teachers.

  3. What race? Of course not American but I think that would've helped me to understand your arguement against the teacher's and father's decision. Even still the teacher was wrong from being concerned to the point that the student was reported and withdrawn. - Cassidy Jones

  4. What I can't understand is why new teacher was able to identify it, what kind of stem teacher cannot identify the circuitry of a clock and disarm the others fears?

  5. Tristin Manus 8th- We would want smart kids like Ahmed. But just because of his race/skin-tone/religion, it brought him back because of people's racist views. Now if it was a white kid who brought a home-made clock to school, he would've been congratulated and received so much praise. Racism is Alive.

  6. How does the teacher even know that the clock could've been a bomb?
But honestly i believe racism will never go away it'll probably be less of a problem in the future but i don't see it changing anytime soon. People are stubborn and unconsciously bias
