Marlee Fleisher | 9th Period | Emmy Paradoxes
Emmy Paradoxes
Summery
Last nights Emmy awards were ripe with award-show paradoxes, truism, Catch-22s and paradoxes like...
John Oliver pointing out that every show is a "limited series" because every show gets cancelled (except for Jeopardy of course) but there is still a separate category for it.
The fact that their is a separate Creative Arts Emmys (for less important awards) but all television is a creative art.
The fact Uzo Aduba is not hard to pronounce, and that she won an Emmy in the Comedy series last year but her character was being manipulated by a sociopath, and this year she won an Emmy in the drama category but her character was writing alien erotica.
Most importantly Viola Davis's Emmy acceptance speech pointed out the in equality in roles for black women on television and in movies
Trans inequality, and the fact that in most states people can be denied housing based on gender identity
John Hamm finally winning an Emmy after losing 7 times in a row
Tracy Morgan returning to the screen and promising to get a whole lot of woman pregnant now that he feels like himself
Andy Samberg pointing out that there is to much good television and not enough time, and that everyone who does joke monologues on TV these days is white
Funny woman being supportive even though the Amy's both lost to Louis-Dreyfus
Everyone using and Sambergs HBOGO to catch up on "Olive Kitteridge"
Jon Stewart pointing out that life not staring on a TV show is hard, no one applauding

ReplyDeleteAndy Samberg is awesome. It takes so much courage to call out all of Hollywood on one of the biggest award shows in the U.S. Media is a major contribution to how our society thinks, and the entertainment industry could do a lot of good if they gave equal representation to minorities.
