As I'm sure almost everyone in at least the state of Texas has heard, a freshman at MacArthur High School was arrested for bringing his "bomb" to school. And as I'm sure everyone also knows that it wasn't actually a bomb, it was a clock that the aspiring engineer had made and brought to school. And although he did get arrested, he has received exactly what he wanted. Attention. He brought clock to school in the first place to receive attention from his teacher, the teacher thought it was a bomb, called the police, the whole scandal is brought to national attention, and this kid gets more attention than he could have ever dreamed of, he is invited to the White House, and Facebook headquarters to meet the people in charge of the world.
Also, Everyone is blaming the whole incident on "Islamophobia" or racial slurs or anything that they can, but I think that if anyone, including myself, had brought a device with a small interface displaying giant red numbers specifically in an orientation that might even slightly resemble a countdown attached to a circuit board with a bunch of wires sticking out of it in a metal suitcase sort of container to an Irving ISD public high school teacher, they still would have thought it was a bomb and called security. Everyone is saying "oh, clocks don't look like bombs, the teacher was just racist," and yes they are correct, clocks don't look like bombs, but if you were to make a clock out of a circuit board and some wires, it would look, to someone who wouldn't actually know what a real bomb would look like, like a bomb that they show in the movies. If it had been a white kid, this would have maybe made local news, but that's it.
But the story gets even better, or rather worse, as according to an article on The Daily Beast, the clock wasn't even homemade, it was just a disassembled factory made clock rearranged to make it look like it was almost homemade. So, sorry if this article seems cold or heartless, and not recognizing the problems in this world, but I think we're looking at the wrong problems here, I think the problems are within those that are so desperate for attention that they would pimp out, so to say, their own race in order to draw attention to a mistake that just happened to have been made and the person on the receiving end just happened to be muslim. From what I can tell, Ahmed has gained much more than he has lost from this whole ordeal, including over $15,000 in academic scholarships and shoutouts from MIT, NASA, Facebook, and more.
