Friday night five inmates escaped from Madera County lockup in California. The men were being held in custody on various charges including attempted murder and armed robbery. When they escaped they were pronounced possibly armed and dangerous. Saturday night four of the five inmates were recaptured. One still remains at large, Roel Soliz a 29 year old, of Chowchilla. The police are still baffled by how they escaped, all they know is it took about an hour for them to realize they were gone.
The thought of jail guards ignorant enough to let not one, but five prisoners escape, and then not notice for an hour, is not very comforting. The purpose of a jail is to punish those who have done wrong and keep the rest of us safe. If escaping is that easy, are we still considered safe and protected?

I totally agree with you! A jail is for punishing them until their sentence is up, and keeping us safe. I feel like there has been many "jail breaks", we need to have a better security system or something instead of them noticing an hour or so after..

I agree, it is terribly disturbing to see that prison guards have let dangerous suspects slip out of jail right under their nose. Doesn't that defeat the purpose of prison anyway?

this makes me question how efficient our punishment system can be if these events can accrue. This is a very unpleasing thing to read.
ReplyDeleteinmates escaping like this will just encourage the system to get better though and at the same time we have to decide when punishment is enough because people who rob convenience stores shouldnt be held in maximum security prisons so maybe these 5 inmates just shouldve been in a higher security prison
ReplyDeleteEven though it was the police force's fault in the first place, it still gives me comfort that the police were able to capture 4 of the 5 escapees in less than the 48 hours. I hope that it will not be long until they capture the last one on the loose.
