Sandra and Bolivar Vilchez's baby was originally supposed to be due September 26th. That is, until Sandra began having contractions that quickly grew stronger while on a Southern California freeway on the way to her mother's house. Bolivar (a Marine Corps veteran), who was driving, quickly sped across the freeway to its shoulder and ran to the passenger side to aid Sandra. Within seconds, he called a fire emergency dispatcher and then began to help his wife deliver the baby. Some time later at approximately 4:21 a.m., little baby Savannah was born. Firefighters soon arrived afterward and helped cut the umbilical cord.
What's amazing to me about this story is not only how quick to action the husband was in assisting the wife's birth, but that the wife toughed it out and gave birth in a car seat by a freeway! That would be so terrifying. And especially while not under any sort of pain medications or doctor supervision. The Vilchez parents sure are troopers.

That's incredible! Glad everything went okay! God truly blessed them both, and their little one!
ReplyDeleteWow that is a stressful situation. Thats great that Bolivar acted so quickly and didn't freak out so this process could go as smoothly as possible.

I'm glad the baby and mother are both safe! Still scary, but as long as they both are alive and well, all is good.
