Several Latin American and European countries have pushed forward a resolution to protect LGBT rights around the world.
The international body in Geneva approved the resolution by a 25-14 vote margin. Most countries voted for the resolution, with those against being mostly comprised of Russia, Islamic and African states. The resolution was first drafted by Argentina, Brazil, Chile, and Colombia, which are mostly left-leaning states who are liberal by Unites States' standards. Many Muslim and fundamentalist African states argued that the decision would "corrupt morals" and "disrespect their culture."
As a gay teen, this move for LGBTQ rights makes me a bit happier, and I'm glad to know that my country is a big supporter of gay rights.

This a great development in the LGBTQ community.
ReplyDeleteThis is a really neat development. It shows that the way we think is changing globally, and hopefully we can learn from this and become more tolerant
ReplyDeleteI knew that Russia, the Islamic and Muslim states and Africa would oppose this. Can't they just get with the modern times and stay out of people's romantic interests? And if they really believe that "God will strike them down" then just let him do it and get on with your life. I'm a Christian but this just aggravates me so much. Still, it's good that these other countries are supporting the LGBTQ community.
ReplyDeleteWow, change is actually happening! This is a great development for the LGBTQ community and communities everywhere.
ReplyDeleteIt is amazing to finally here about something going right for the LGBTQ community. It's about time!! - Jessica Sheinfeld
