Why Everybody is Moving to Texas by Milan Hamilton
More Americans have moved to Texas in recent years than any other state. Texas' net gain was over 387,000 in the last Census and Austin was the fastest growing city. The number 1 reason for the moves is jobs, with affordable housing running a very close second. Texas has a lot of cheap land around the cities and easy regulations that allow them to build land quickly, making it a clear advantage. All of the major cities in Texas were also among the top 20 fastest growing cites. Austin, at number 1, has an unemployment rate of only 4.6% and the jobs are well paid. The median income is about $75,000, which is about 20% higher than the median national income. Because of these great qualities and strong economies, Texas became even more attractive for people looking to relocate.
I really thought this was interesting because it shows you how people look for new places to move. Of course I've always loved Texas as a state, but never really new much about the enormous pull factors it has for other Americans. If I didn't already live here, I'd want to live here too!

This is awesome for our state!
ReplyDeleteI agree with what you are saying in how I have never actually acknowledged what factors pulled people to the Texas. It is quite true though because in the city that I live in, there has been such a large population increase recently.
