Week 4:
"A high school in California is forced to change their mascot due to multiple complaints, stating that their stereotyping of Arabian culture is not only a form of racism, but also a huge deal of disrespect. Students, faculty members, and citizens firmly believe that it is unfair because it is apart of the school's history and held dear to the community."
I believe that the arguments in favor of keeping the Arab mascot are extremely ableist and wrong. Much like Native American mascots, who are painted as savages, wrong. I don't agree with the school board only changing the mascot logo rather than dismissing it as a whole because the activities carried along with the theme of the logo (i.e. belly dancing) are prime examples of cultural appropriation and stereotyping, especially when set at an American football game. I do understand the whole "historical" aspect of it, but history is accompanied by change and it is not O.K. to be blatantly racist.

Week 5:
http://www.cnn.com/video/data/2.0/video/us/2014/09/26/lead-dnt-savidge-oklahoma-man-beheads-female-coworker.cnn.html
"A young man is fired from his job and returns promptly afterwards to behead a coworker, then shoots a cop. Coworkers reported that he had been trying to convert them to the Muslim religion, which investigators immediately take the fact that ISIS could have influenced his actions in some way into consideration."
This particular case is infuriating. They are assuming that because this man is Muslim his act of mental insanity was caused by his religion, most likely because of the theory fed to the general public by the American media that "all Muslims are terrorists." Yes, of course ISIS sent out some type of newsletter saying "kill everyone!" without having any strategic plan or motive because they want to be reckless and blow their cover so fast that is gives America even more of a reason to bomb their land once again! (Sarcasm is intended.)
The closing sentence in itself is ridiculous,
"In Oklahoma, investigators are investigating Nolan's social media footprint, trying to determine if this vicious, deadly rage was revenge over a lost job, or a far away conflict that has now hit the homelands."
Also, oh yes! Because an atheist shoots a christian, it is to be assumed that because of their religious differences, he/she killed them because of that! Perfect.

Week 6:
"Thousands are moving to Texas in hopes of finding a beautiful affordable home and enjoying the growth of Texan cities. A state wealthy in oil and increasing in job opportunities everyday, it is a state of great economic achievement and success."
Taking a break from the upsetting events above, I think that it's wonderful that Texas is going through an amazing period of growth and success, where population is rising but job opportunities can easily be found. It's comforting to know that Texas is blossoming as a whole, in many aspects, including culturally, economically, etc... And to be able to live in a state becoming known for great things is interesting.
